Abstract :

Determining the benefits of employee training can be difficult because many methods can be used which take into account different variables. One effective method is to track training benefits by analyzing operational results to determine such things as whether the cost of training is outweighed by benefits, or whether training has impacted specific business factors. There are seven important items which must be addressed when developing a system to track operational change including: identifying clients and establishing what is needed; establishing what results need to be tracked; and establishing what information is needed. To establish a training program's contributions, it must be possible to: demonstrate the connection between business indicators and skills being taught in training; provide effective training for those skills; and monitor the operational indicators and their movement.
