Abstract :

Stark spectroscopy is used for examining the electrostatic properties of the different carotenoids reconstituted into the LH1 complexes from photosynthetic bacterium Rhodospirillum (Rs) rubrum S1. The conformations of carotenoids, anhydrorhodovibrin and spheroidene in LH1 complex are similar to that of rhodopin glucoside in crystal structure of the LH2 complex from Rhodopseudomonas acidophila 10050.
