Abstract :

Avoidance-oriented mood regulation strategies were helpful in the short term, but chronic avoidance predicted higher levels of homesickness among college students. Approach-oriented regulatory strategies did not predict homesickness, which is conceptualized as grief in this context. The impact of relationship quality, at home and in college, is also examined.
