The role of glycemic load and other dietary factors on the measure of survival among cancer patients have remained largely unknown. Researchers from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (MA, USA) set out to examine the influence of a high carbohydrate diet on recurrence and mortality in colon cancer patients.
Writing in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute , the research group found a significant link between a high carbohydrate diet and an increased likelihood of disease recurrence. The study highlights the potential role of diet in cancer progression and could give clinicians and patients further guidance when looking at post-treatment care and lifestyle changes.
