Abstract :

Human resources (HR) professionals can enhance the success of corporate mergers and acquisitions by addressing the sense of loss experienced by many employees affected by consolidation actions. The losses employees can face include a loss of hierarchical status; a loss of knowledge about a firm; and a loss of job definition. HR can help by offering options to managers that include a survey of attitudes of all employees about a merger; problem-solving and creativity meetings; and team building.
