Abstract :

An examination of administrative claims data from three national commercial insurers shows that state autism insurance mandate age caps result in lower levels of health service use and spending among adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. Moreover, mandate age caps may lead to a substantial reversal of the gains made among eligible beneficiaries in states with insurance mandates.
