Abstract :
Most management development programs do not enhance corporate strategy, but a new model for management development can increase organizational effectiveness. Management development programs may fail because they do not relate to the strategies of the organization, do not teach managers to be competent, do not focus on operating units, do not encourage participants to attend for organizational reasons, and do not help managers face reality. Coca-Cola Co has successfully implemented Maintaining Competitive Advantage, a new organization-based management development program that is linked to corporate strategy. The company analyzes its ability to implement strategies and solve problems and then implements programs to eliminate any weaknesses.
