Abstract :
Many organizations have implemented a long-term, systematic management development program called the 'building-blocks' approach in order to effectively create strategic change. General Electric Co's Core Development Sequence is a management development program aimed at various levels of employees. A typical building-blocks program has three stages: a stage for people who have become managers for the first time, a stage for middle managers, and a stage for senior and general managers. Northern Telecom Inc, GTE, Xerox, and IBM are examples of companies that are using the building-blocks approach. Companies considering a building-blocks program should have a clear long-term strategy.
