Abstract :

A review of literature discussing the political climate of the United Kingdom in the 1980s and 1990s mainly concerns itself with the dominance of the Conservative Party and the ways in which this dominance has lessened democracy. Text books and historical studies are included. Most authors feel that Parliament has become too elitist to represent the public and that the checks and balances inherent in a two-party system have become eroded. The role of the Prime Minister is also discussed.
