Abstract :

French novelist Marcel Proust's works are believed to have been influenced and inspired by the writing style of the Goncourt brothers. There is documentation pointing to Proust's preoccupation with and interest in neurasthenia, hysteria and degenerate sexuality that dominates several novels of the Goncourt brothers. Themes and patterns from some of Proust's novels are fictional threads, psychological patterns, artistic inspiration and the combination of pleasure and shame.
