Abstract :

A study showing causal illusion as a cognitive mediator of pseudoscientific beliefs is presented. A novel questionnaire of pseudoscientific beliefs was given to 225 participants who also completed a contingency learning task. The hypothesis that causal illusions might play a basic role in the endorsement of pseudoscientific beliefs is supported by the results.
