Abstract :

Chlorophyll preparation in Nicotiana tabacum is blocked by the antisense gene for glutamate 1-semialdehyde aminotransferase (GSA-AT), proving the importance of this enzyme in ensuring delta-aminolevulinate for tetrapyrrole synthesis. Chlrophyll preparation, translation of the enzyme and the steady state in RNA level of glutamate semialdehyde aminotransferase were attenuated by antisense gene expression.
