New Insights Into Plaque Erosion as a Mechanism of Acute Coronary Syndromes.

The pathophysiology and clinical features of atherosclerotic plaque erosion is outlined. Apart from plaque rupture, atherosclerotic plaque erosion is considered as a fundamental mechanism of acute coronary syndromes. Studies hinting at the potential of antithrombotic therapy without percutaneous coronary intervention and stenting as optimal treatment are also highlighted.
