Abstract :

Conservationist and ornithologist Joseph Grinnell was among the first to acknowledge the important role of birds in conservation as a result of their charisma, intimacy and vulnerability to the environment. He was proven right by evidences demonstrating the impact of birds and ornithology to preserve species and their homes. Given the continuing risks to natural landscapes in western Northern America, ornithologically-oriented conservation initiatives need to be increased.
