The drug eptifibatide can reduce the complications of a stent implantation for the treatment of coronary artery disease. Stents are small metal or plastic cylinders that are placed inside an artery to keep it open. However, the artery can become blocked again, or a blood clot can form which in turn can cause a heart attack.
