Abstract :

The assumption that predation probability is inversely proportional to species number is tested with the use of likelihood models and applied to data from 113 food webs found in the ECOWeB database. Results indicate that the cascade model's systemic part fits the ECOWeB data to a fair degree. However, the model is also shown to significantly underestimate data variability.
