Abstract :

The statistical modeling of optical traveling wave amplification in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers is carried out. The model, which applies to amplifiers with nonhomogeneous birth-death-immigration rates, characterize the signal and noise as marked, independent Poisson processes. In addition, the amplifier is modeled as a function of random gain, size and time intensity of the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise. It may also be used to obtain the statistics of the global gain and ASE noise in light amplified links.
