Abstract :

King Louis XIV of France was a skilled manipulator of court protocol as demonstrated by his audience on Sep 1, 1686, where he replicated the Siamese royal ceremonial to impress both his courtiers and the Siam ambassadors. The theatrical display supported Louis claims to absolute monarchy by inflating both his personal and royally symbolic greatness and power and was successful despite exceeding European tradition.
