Abstract :

A large part of the archaeology in the Brazilian Amazon remains rooted in the deterministic, possibilistic or monocausal influences first presented in the Handbook of South American Indians. Research undertaken from 1977 to 1997 has tried to move away from this theme. Several researchers have focused on the interaction between inhabitants of the Amazon and their environment as well as ethnographic analogies.
