Abstract :

An analysis of the life-health insurance industry's financial performance from 1988 to 1992 shows positive trends in the areas of industry-wide premium income, asset quality and growth rate analysis. The implementation of a new risk-based regulation in 1993 provides better prospects for the industry's safety and insolvency while a more relative rating system will provide a more accurate evaluation of insurance companies. The life-health insurance industry's future concerns include continued asset quality enhancement, industrial cooperation and the consequences of the new risk-based capital requirement.
