Abstract :

GC-Fourier transform infrared and GC-MS analyses of the stereochemistry, structure and thermal isomerization of sex pheromones of male longhorn beetle Anaglyptus subfaciatus show that 3-hydroxy-2-hexanone and 3-hydroxy-3-octanone are the pheromone constituents present as a molar mixture in the ratio 7:1. These compounds thermally isomerize to yield their respective 2-hydroxy-3-alkanones. The two semiochemicals display (R)-stereochemistry.
