Abstract :

The strike against The Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News has divided the city's newspaper community. The local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has not escaped the effects of the bitter conflict between newspaper management and the labor unions. For instance, the Detroit chapter has decided to postpone the implementation of an aggressive membership recruitment plan until the strike ends.
