Abstract :

Giant Food, Safeway and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 have agreed on a four-year labor contract that covers 20,000 employees in the Washington, DC, area. The contract delays salary increases in exchange for retaining the fully paid health-insurance benefits of the employees. Employees are scheduled to receive wage increases of 25 cents per hour during the first year and yearly increases of 35 cents per hour in the other three years.
