The cyclization of the 2,2'-dilithiobipheyls with silicon tetrachloride is carried out to prepare a series of four asymmetrically aryl-substituted 9.9'-spiro-9-silabifluorene (SSF) derivatives. These spiro-linked silacyclopentadienes (siloles) were found to form transparent and stable amorphous films with relatively high glass transition temperature (T(sub g) = 203-228 degree-Celsius).

Abstract :

The synthesis and characterization of a series of primary and secondary alcohol adducts of 1,3-dimesitylimidazolin-2-ylidene is described. These alcohol adducts were found to function as excellent single-component catalyst/initiators for the ring-opening polymerization of lactide under mild conditions, providing polymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow polydispersities.
