Abstract :

Resistance to antibiotics is one of the most critical health problems in the world. Therefore, finding new treatment methods to be used as alternatives to antibiotics has become a priority for researchers. Similar to phages, certain products containing antimicrobial components, such as molasses, are widely used to eliminate resistant bacteria. Molasses has a strong antimicrobial effect on bacterial cells, and this effect is thought to be due to the breakdown of the cytoplasmic cell membrane and cell proteins of the polyphenols in molasses. In the present study, phage-molasses interactions were investigated to examine the effects of concomitant use. It was found that molasses samples increased the size of phage plaques by up to 3-fold, and MIC and 1/2 x MIC concentrations of molasses increased the burst size of phages. Although no synergistic effect was found between the phage and molasses, the antimicrobial activities of the components and the effect of molasses on phage activity were demonstrated. De nos jours, la resistance des agents pathogenes aux antibiotiques constitue l'un des problemes de sante les plus critiques dans le monde. Par consequent, la recherche de nouvelles methodes de traitement pouvant etre utilisees comme solution de rechange aux antibiotiques est devenue une priorite pour les chercheurs. Comme les phages, certains produits contenant des composants antimicrobiens tels que la melasse sont largement utilises pour eliminer les bacteries resistantes. La melasse exerce un fort effet antimicrobien sur la cellule bacterienne, et on pense que cet effet est du a la degradation de la membrane cellulaire cytoplasmique et des proteines cellulaires par les polyphenols de la melasse. Dans la presente etude, les interactions phages-melasse ont ete etudiees afin d'examiner les effets decoulant de leur utilisation concomitante. Il a ete constate que les echantillons de melasse augmentaient la taille des plaques de phages jusqu'a 3 fois, et que la CMI et la CMI 50 de la melasse augmentaient le rendement cellulaire de lyse des phages. Bien qu'aucun effet synergique n'ait ete trouve entre les phages et la melasse, les activites antimicrobiennes des composants et l'effet de la melasse sur l'activite des phages ont ete demontres.
