Abstract :

Ballot features that facilitate straight-party voting are gradually disappearing from ballots in American states. This development tends to help Republican candidates and hurt Democratic candidates. Despite the ballot changes, we don't expect a dramatic increase in split ticket voting because of the growing ideological gulf between the national parties.
