Abstract :

A study about the group II azoreductase BTI1 utilizing NADPH to directly cleave azo bonds in water-soluble azo dyes, including quenchers of fluorescence is reported. A lack of color change is consistent with maintained charge and tautomer equilibria which could not explain the pH-dependent substrate specificity revealed pH-dependent dye-enzyme interactions as the most likely explanation.
