Abstract :

The objectives of US monetary policy and the strategies for achieving them are contentious issues. While it is generally accepted that the primary task of the Federal Reserve is to preserve price stability, economists are divided over whether or not monetary policy should concentrate solely on this goal. Some believe that the Federal Reserve should seek to stabilize not only prices, but output and employment as well.
