Claressa Shields
Overview
Claressa Shields is the first American woman to win a boxing gold medal, in the 2012 London Olympics--and she successfully defended that title four years later in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to win back-to-back gold in the 2016 Olympics. Shields was just 17 years old when she won her first gold; she stands 5'9", and fights in the middleweight division at 165 lbs. Among her many accolades, Shields became a two-time Elite World Champion in 2016, and upon winning her second gold medal, she became the most successful U.S. Olympic boxer in history. Charismatic and resilient, Shields was heavily favored to win in the gold medal bout with the Netherlands' Nouchka Fontijn. Shields' record is 76-1.
