Overview
A red cabin sits on the banks of Round Lake in rural Minnesota. It's an unimposing structure that houses a formidable figure---Winona LaDuke, Native American activist and environmental gadfly. She is known for her numerous books on the plight of indigenous peoples, including All Our Relations: Native Struggles for Land and Life (2017).
It is from her cabin, in the heart of the White Earth Reservation, that LaDuke conducts the business of human rights activism. High on her agenda is the preservation of Native American lands. In one 1994 case, according to a People magazine profile, LaDuke sued a local Otter Tail County developer who built a trailer park on Native American burial mounds; she wanted him to remove it....
