Norman Borlaug
Overview
"More than any other single person of this age, [Norman Borlaug] has helped provide bread for a hungry world," the Nobel committee said of agricultural innovator Borlaug when they presented him with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970, according to the New York Times. "We have made this choice in the hope that providing bread will also give the world peace." Borlaug has become known as the father of the "Green Revolution," and has been credited with saving "more lives than any other person who has ever lived" when he was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal. Also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Borlaug was one of the five people in history to win all three honors.
