COVID-19 vaccines are biological preparations that induce active acquired immunity against SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes the pandemic disease COVID-19. As of February 2023, in addition to the approximately 40 different COVID-19 vaccines in use around the world, at least 300 additional candidate vaccines were in development, with more than 100 of them in clinical trials.
