Overview
COVID-19 vaccines are biological preparations that induce active acquired immunity against SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes the pandemic disease COVID-19. As of April 2022, in addition to the approximately 37 different COVID-19 vaccines in use around the world, at least 300 additional candidate vaccines were in development, with more than 100 of them in clinical trials. As of April 28, 2022, over 11.56 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered worldwide, with an additional 11.7 million administered daily. About 65% of the global population has received at least one vaccine dose.
