James Buchanan was America's fifteenth president.

James Buchanan was born in a log cabin in Pennsylvania on April 23, 1791. He studied law and became a lawyer in 1812. Buchanan was active in politics early in his adult life.

Buchanan was elected president of the United States in 1856.
