Chief Sitting Bull
Overview
Sitting Bull was an influential leader of the Sioux tribe who fought against the United States. After surviving many battles, he traded his freedom for amnesty for his people but continued to speak out against the creation of reservations and unlawful treaties. After retiring on a reservation, Sitting Bull was killed by police. He remains an influential figure among Native Americans in the twenty-first century.
Sitting Bull was born in 1831 near Grand River, in the area that is now South Dakota. His father, Returns-Again, was a famous Sioux warrior.
