Overview
World War II was an international war that took place from 1939 to 1945. It started when Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. Adolf Hitler, the leader of Germany, wanted to take over Europe to create more space for the German people to live. At the same time, he wanted to rid the continent of people he considered inferior, including Jewish individuals.
The United Kingdom, Soviet Union, United States, and other countries joined forces as the Allied powers. They defeated the Axis powers of Germany and its principal partner of Japan in 1945.
