Navajo Code Talkers
Overview
The Navajo code talkers were a group of soldiers who used their traditional language to develop an unbreakable code during World War II (1939–1945). At the time, the Navajo language was mainly a spoken language. It was also mostly unknown outside of the Navajo community. The code talkers developed a secret code that used Navajo words to stand in for battlefield orders and tactics. The code was used in all the major battles in the Pacific during the war. The code talkers were so successful that the enemy was never able to break their code. They played an important part in winning the war in the Pacific.
