Sexual Harassment
Overview
Sexual harassment is a form of sexual discrimination. According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), sexual harassment refers to acts like making unwelcome sexual advances, requesting sexual favors, or engaging in a range of inappropriate behaviors. Common verbal and nonverbal harassment can include sex-related jokes or innuendos, suggestive sounds such as "wolf whistles," the display of visual sex-related materials, discussing someone's sexual behavior, and sexual advances that are clearly unwanted. Physical behaviors include intentionally brushing up against someone, giving unwelcome hugs, groping, and coercing a sexual act through reward or punishment.
