Terrorism

The United States Code of Federal Regulations defines terrorism as "the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives." In addition to using this definition the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) further classifies terrorism into domestic and international subtypes. In the United States, diverse political ideologies have served as motivation for terrorist acts. The goals of such terrorists have included making political statements, silencing political opposition, and overthrowing the government.
