Drones
Overview
Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and remotely piloted aerial systems (RPAS), are remotely piloted aircrafts. They are used by the military for surveillance and can be armed for air strikes in dangerous or risky situations. Drones have also been used for nonmilitary purposes, including real estate photography, cartography, and competitive racing. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) determines rules for the personal recreational use and commercial use of small drones. Policies continue to evolve as needs arise. In April 2021, for example, new rules came into effect regarding remote identification, calculating risk levels when operating small drones near people, and determining safe conditions for operating at night.
