Overview
Suicide refers to death caused by an intentional, self-inflicted injury or act of violence that is performed with the intent of dying. Suicide is commonly known as killing oneself or taking one's own life. The term suicide attempts refers to self-directed violence or potentially injurious behaviors performed with the intent of dying that do not result in death. The continuum of suicidal behaviors also includes suicidal ideation, or the process of thinking about, preparing for, or planning suicide.
