Overview
Genetic testing is a method of analyzing genes, which are biological heredity units possessed by all living organisms. Genes contain molecules of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), which are double-stranded structures that hold a coded sequence of biological instructions that control physical development and functioning. These elements play a central role in the science of genetics, which studies the biological traits and characteristics passed by parents to their offspring. Genetic mutations are another central concept in the study of genetics. They represent permanent changes in a DNA sequence that create biological diversity but can also lead to illnesses and medical conditions known as genetic disorders.
