Donald Trump (1946–) was the forty-fifth president of the United States. Before entering politics, he was well known as the chairperson and president of the real estate development firm the Trump Organization and as the former host of the reality television show The Apprentice. In mid-2015, Trump announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for president of the United States. Over the next year, he repeatedly generated media controversy over some of his political statements, but he ultimately gained enough support to win the 2016 presidential election.
