Overview
The Electoral College refers to a system used in the United States to elect the president and vice president. It was established by people who drafted the U.S. Constitution. Their goal was to create a way to ensure that large population centers did not have more power than rural areas in presidential elections. While the Electoral College has effectively executed the goals of the Founding Fathers, it is still seen as controversial by many Americans.
