American voters trying to make decisions during congressional and presidential election campaigns are bombarded with relentless ads funded by millions of dollars donated to independent groups not directly affiliated with the candidates. These organizations often mask the identities of donors and disguise their intentions with vague names, such as Americans for Prosperity, Workers’ Voice, and Make Us Great Again, which evoke a positive identity.
